Kitchens have many purposes, aside from food preparation, the kitchen can be a gathering place for entertaining or a homework/office zone to name a few. In modern designs, kitchens are designed to be an open concept which allows your other living spaces to interconnect with each other.
Having a small kitchen does not mean that you and your guests can’t enjoy the space. There are ways to increase functionality in your small kitchen without having to undergo a major renovation that will break your bank.
“Here are some quick tips to help you make the most of your small space:
- Maximize your storage space: Incorporate storage spaces in places which will provide double function. For example: Add storage space by placing decorative boxes on top of your cabinets. This will allow you to keep smaller items tucked away and add a touch of decor at the same time.
- Change your paint colours: Avoid dark wall colours and go for a lighter tone. Light paint colours will make your kitchen appear to be larger than it is.
- Customize your cabinets: If customized cabinets fit your budget a great way to add space is to design cabinets that maximize space. Reach for the ceiling when designing your cabinets. You will also be able to custom fit cabinets so you can utilize all awkward spaces.
- Light up your space: Recessed lighting and accent lights can create a bigger space by tricking the human eye.
- De clutter!!! If it doesn’t need to be in your kitchen than get rid of it! Clutter will make any space appear smaller. It is important to have only what you need and if possible store the rest in another area of the home. A cluttered space makes a room feel much smaller than it really is. If you have room, store away your least used appliances and keep the kitchen counter tops as bare and as clean as possible. “
